A Laser Decay Detection Aid.

Dr. Bobbitt's practice is committed to helping you maintain and improve your oral health. To achieve this goal, the dental care that you and your family receive in our office always includes proven, state of the art equipment. Among the newest technologies is a small laser instrument called the DIAGNOdent, which scans your teeth with harmless laser light searching for hidden decay. Locating hidden decay before it destroys tooth structure from the inside out is a major goal for modern dentistry

Our highly trained dental auxiliaries take a pen-like probe and simply glide it over your tooth surfaces checking for digital readings of laser light reflection. This technology is completely safe and pain free.

Decay (a cavity) can be extremely difficult to detect using the conventional explorer (the "pick") which has been used to detect decay based on the hardness of the tooth surface. This laser technology, DIAGNOdent, detects even the smallest decay at its earliest stage enabling Dr. Bobbitt to protect and preserve the majority of healthy tooth structure.

KaVo estimates that the DIAGNOdent technology is only used in about 14% of US dental offices today. Studies show that dentists can find only 10% of decay with a mirror and explorer and x-ray films only show us 45% of the decay. With X-ray films, the caries must be through the enamel and a millimeter or two into the dentin before dentists see it on a radiograph. What about the other 45%? Without the DIAGNOdent to diagnose the other 45%, dentists, by default, cannot find decay soon enough and this allows caries (decay) to destroy a large amount of healthy tooth structure before it is diagnosed. This proven technology will allow us to diagnose over 90% of pit and fissure decay before it has destroyed a large amount of health tooth structure.

WATERLASE MD

Dr. Bobbitt has been trained in Laser Assisted Dentistry at the World Clinical Laser Institute and has been using this high level of soft and hard tissue laser-assisted dentistry in his practice over the past two years. HydroPhotonicsTM, a patented combination of laser energy and water, allows dentists trained in this technology to perform a wide range of dental procedures on teeth, gums, and bone more comfortably.

Backed by more than 25 years of research, development, and investigations by countless clinicians and companies, laser dentistry is entering a new era of legitimacy, fueled by the versatility and broad utility of the YSGG laser. The elements that compose the YSGG laser are a crystal medium of Yttrium, scandium, gallium, and garnet doped with erbium and chromium.

The Waterlase MD laser was first cleared by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 1998 and has since received over 60 additional clearances for a wide range of procedures on teeth, gums and bone.

Waterlase MD at Scott Bobbitt
The Waterlase MD Laser is an amazing transformation in dentistry allowing dentists with training to perform a wide range of clinical procedures with improved patient outcomes, less trauma, reduced post-operative complications and in many cases fewer shots and less anesthesia. Since you may not need shots or anesthesia, you may now be able to have dentistry performed in several areas of your mouth, rather than having you come back for multiple visits.
